Analytical Testing

FTIR

Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy, or FTIR, is an analytical test that quantifies a material’s absorbance of infrared light at different wavelengths which is used to create a “fingerprint” of its chemical makeup. The generated scan can then be compared with libraries of known spectrums to determine a sample’s base material class. Alpine Polytech can provide information on the chemical composition of materials.

FT-IR Alpine Polytech

• Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR) is used to identify polymeric materials and additives. Chemical fingerprints are
compared to libraries of known materials.
• FTIR by ATR is a surface technique (i.e. infrared penetration of 2-5μm). However, it is capable of determining whether a material has
been contaminated and in some cases, degraded. Polymers are also
dissolved and run in transmission.
