Gas permeation testing determines the rate of gas flow through a solid material from an area of high concentration on one side of the material to an area of low concentration on the other side.
Alpine Polytech can evaluate the gas permeation characteristics of rubbers, plastics, composites, and application specific seal configurations. Testing can be performed with a variety of gases and gas mixtures including sour, flammable, and hazardous gases to high pressures. Gas permeation can be evaluated using a pressure differential across a specimen with permeant gases captured. Permeant gases can be measured using a simple pressure rise over time method or evaluated with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry.
Gases available for gas permeation testing include:
Keywords: ISO 2782-1, Permeation, Permeability, Flux, Diffusion, Solubility
• Media – Gas or Liquid
• Temperature – Cryogenic to 325C
• Pressures – Vacuum to 40,000 psi
• Measure permeation as a function of time, temp, and pressure
• Identify permeated media with MS and FTIR
