H2S Testing

H2S Sour Age Materials Testing

H2S is a gas that occurs naturally alongside other gases such as methane and CO2 in many sites globally, such as downhole oil and gas wells. Therefore, it can be crucial to select materials with that survive these simulated sour gas environments. Alpine is well versed in running sour aging at high pressure, high temperature, and high sour gas concentrations to accurately recreate well conditions. Our team is equipped to expertly evaluate the performance of sour aged materials and seals according to international standards as well as specialized bespoke methods.

H2S material and component testing requires advanced equipment and experience to ensure your equipment will perform in harsh environments, specifically that of the oil and gas industry. Materials regularly exposed to hydrogen sulfide (H2S) can be tested to determine longevity and adaptation for future use. Alpine Polytech is an advanced H2S testing facility for materials used in the oil and gas industry. We place materials and components in high temperature and high pressure H2S testing environments and provide usable data to companies

Alpine Sour Aging Capabilities

  • Temperature up to 350°C (662°F)
  • Pressure up to 40,000 psi
  • H2S concentration up to 100%
  • Large vessels able to simultaneously age multiple materials
  • Smaller vessels for isolated materials
  • Complete data acquisition of pressure, temperature, and time
  • Physical and analytical testing of polymers before and after exposure

Our Advanced H2S Testing Process

Testing of materials in an H2S environment is generally not enough to provide a realistic picture of performance of materials as they are used in oil and gas environments. High temperature and high pressure are also present. Accurate testing requires the use of H2S sour age testing in combination with high and low temperatures and pressures to simulate a real-world environment. Alpine Polytech provides this advanced level of H2S sour testing. We test rubbers, metals and other polymers that are used in down-hole operations allowing your organization to have longevity and operational use data of your equipment in varying environments.

Quality Standards of H2S Testing

Alpine is an ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accredited lab equipped to expertly run standardized tests such as:
  • API 6A
  • API 16C
  • NACE TM0197
  • NACE TM0296
  • ISO 23936
  • NORSOK M-710

Hydrogen sulfide is a gas that occurs naturally in many sites globally, such as oil and gas wells. H2S is typically obtained by separation from sour gas. Alpine Polytech is well versed in running sour aging at high pressures and temperatures to accurately simulate the environments that equipment performs in.
